On 8-9 July, consortium partners gathered at Umicore’s headquarters in Brussels for the 3rd General Assembly. The project is now halfway through, with results starting to take shape.
During the two-day General Assembly, each work package was presented in turn, giving the consortium a full overview of the project’s current status and progress. WP leaders shared the latest achievements, discussed the challenges encountered along the way, and outlined the mitigation measures already in place, as well as the next steps planned for the coming months. Overall, the project continues to advance smoothly, with encouraging progress across all areas and important strides being made toward the development of more advanced lithium-ion batteries.
The goal of developing the next generation of batteries is ambitious, but also highly relevant. Safer, more efficient, and more sustainable battery technologies are essential if Europe is to strengthen its position in the transition to electric mobility. Batteries that require fewer raw materials, last longer, and can be more easily reused or recycled will not only help reduce environmental impact, but will also contribute to greater resilience in the face of climate change and the energy price shocks caused by geopolitical disruption. By helping shape the battery of the future, SAGELi is supporting Europe’s path toward a cleaner, safer, and more efficient transportation sector.
The assembly also featured a workshop on social acceptance and stakeholder mapping, organised by LOMARTOV as part of Task 6.4. This activity plays a key role in the project, as understanding who the relevant stakeholders are, how they may benefit from the project’s findings, and what concerns or expectations they may have is essential for ensuring the successful uptake of next-generation battery technologies. Increasing social acceptance is a crucial step in overcoming misconceptions that still surround electric mobility and in building trust around the technologies that will shape the future of transport.
The partners will meet again in person next year in San Sebastian, Spain, for the next General Assembly. That meeting will also mark the final year of the project, and many important results are expected as SAGELi moves closer to completion.
